Ah, the smell of counselor training.... Since the summer season is almost upon us, and I'm reasonably sure that AC is getting ready for, or possibly into, the latest iteration of counselor training, I thought I'd share a story from back in the old days...when counselor training lost nearly 50 percen...

When I worked at Sprocket the department was called IS. I understand where you are coming from, I'm just suggesting that the effort required would be too much in the eyes of some.

[email protected] just made the IS department flinch. That's a lot of information to store, collate, maintain, etc.... Good idea, but I don't think they'd ever do it.

At the top of the hill at AC, next to the volleyball court stand two railroad cars utilized in the 1950s and 1960s as mobile simulation trainers for the B-52 Stratofortress aircraft. They house the official office of the Aviation Challenge program and the counselor wardroom. The trailer closest to t...

A Sad Day Indeed...

Rumor has it that the B-52 simulator mobile trainer railcars at Aviation Challenge (at least one of them) has been condemned. One of our BUFFs has finally reached the end of a prodigious journey.

Obituary to follow. Stay tuned.[/img]

For some reason this morning, I was thinking about the AC Bullhorn. On one of the SGMs big supply runs to Fort Campbell, he picked up this 1960s Army bullhorn. Imagine a bullhorn, but with a massive battery pack. The thing took like 6 D size batteries and it weighed about ten pounds. It would work o...

I walk into the Bubble, hearing hushed voices in the classroom above. I'm the only counselor in the building having moved past Spanky and Joker with a smile and handshake, as was our custom. In my flightsuit and boots, I make sure and step loudly up the lakeside stairs to the room and open the door ...

I tried to pretty much tear up every team. The team that Spanky's talking about...well, you'll get my take on them when Spanky finishes the story of their....emergence....and their arrival in the briefing room. I still tore them apart, mind you - but it was one of the harder briefings to do so in. M...

Finish your side of the story, Spanky. I'll pick up from when I first saw them when I entered the Briefing Room.

Not to be left out, there are several Marines (Rambler among them) and Soldiers (Doolittle, Me, and the SGM among others) out there too. The Marines had a squadron at AC for a while, and the Army influence has been the survival program, escape and evasion, and the more doctrinally correct exercises ...
