Early Sims?

What were the shuttle sims like when camp started? What kind of graphics did they use? I've played some early consumer sims (i.e. Virgin Games Shuttle), and I've done modern sims (Orbiter). I am amazed at what costed money a long time ago is now surpassed by free software. Were the camp sims like vi...

Ok. Do you fly the mach III sims? And what plane are they modeled after? I remember the Mach II sims I flew at Academy Pilot track were F/A-18s. I'm kinda glad I'll get to fly them. I'm probably going scuba diving in January, so I'll get my fix, and I've been pretty into aviation lately. I just need...

As to the asthma restrictions once upon a time i seem to remember them taking it on a case by case basis with the dive team hving the final say usualy after consulting the doctor. The problem is that it is a major insurance liability and one bad problem could close the camp down of a parent sues. A...

My Cousin Skeeter

Has anyone seen that episode of the old school nick show My Cousin Skeeter when he accidentally goes on the shuttle? It was kinda like SpaceCamp gone terribly wrong. I haven't seen it for a long time, I was very little.

Things they should change at camp

I think a lot of people on the forum would agree with me that changes should be made at camp. I think they should change the mission format to this: 7 Flight Controllers 4 shuttle astronauts 3 soyuz/station astronauts This way, with 2 missions, everyone gets to fly in space. The 4 shuttle astronauts...

I see, but will they still even do the 24h mission, because I remember it only being mentioned in the 12 day stuff, which we all know is discontinued.

Fun like "fitting a square peg into a round hole?"

Thanks. Another question I have is if everybody gets to be on the shuttle or station on the missions. 2/3 missions I did, I was stuck with the 2 worst assignments (Mission Scientist, and I think PROP).

Again I'm guessing that they're so strict about this kinda stuff at camp because of the liability.

If you have asthma you will not dive. Doesn't matter if you have dived before or not. Even if your doctor says you can dive, the dive staff has final say and will not let you with any history of asthma. Wow, really? That policy seems somewhat extreme. It's probably for insurance reasons, or somethi...

ASA Questions

Since I've started to "plan" my trip to ASA (hopefully) next summer, I've started a lot of topics. I'm gonna consolidate them here. Do most ASAers wear flight suits? I've outgrown mine. I think they look kinda dorky but cool at the same time, and I feel they're part of the experience. Do y...

Favorite Mission Memories

What are your favorite memories from missions? I remember on my first mission in my first year (SC), I was commander for discovery. Of course, none of us knew this until just before landing, I had not control over the orbiter. On final approach, I was coming in at a much lower angle then anyone expe...

Long Duration?

I know that ASA has Long (6 hr) and Extra Long (24 hr) missions. I heard the 24 hr one was discontinued, as it was only part of the 12 day. On either of the missions, is the entirety spend enclosed in the sim? Do you have to pack food on them, or do you leave, or is it delivered? In the ASA missions...

Generally, you can expect trainees in the younger programs to be less-interested in space, as many of them are there just because their parents made them go. Interesting, when I did SC, the team was great, they all wanted to be there. When I was at SA, this one kid kinda ruined my trip, I think he ...

I might become a certified diver before too, and I have dove before, when my asthma was much worse. I think if I am certified at the time, they'd let me.
