Re: 2018

Did I read that right: only 2 missions, a 3 hour and a 1 hour? Two one-hour missions, then the "LDM" was only 3. We only used STS, as the Mars landing site stuff is under construction right now. We got to look around the new Orion sim they have (which everyone walks by when doing the walk...

Re: 2018

I enjoyed it, but there were some issues with all this. First, the graduation was so fast, I think it was done in less time than it took me to type this sentence. No wings being pinned on, they just handed you the envelope and there's the door. The trainers were very ill-prepared for such a small gr...

Re: 2018

We look forward to your camp updates! I got back on Saturday (the Huntsville flight was seriously delayed) and I haven't had time to write down anything. Let's just say that our team was comically small (one team of 8 guys and that was it) and the trainer really didn't know his space history very w...

I haven't really spent much time getting ready for SC over the past week due to a new addition to the house- Meet Sweet Pea! https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1975/43576068110_d03c2e94af.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1926/43576067840_5d5c046dd8_n.jpg She's a dachshund/poodle crossbreed, 8 weeks ol...

Re: "First Man" movie, who's going to see it the opening weekend?

Maybe the answers are in the annotated screenplay. https://www.space.com/42069-first-man-annotated-screenplay-book.html?utm_source=sdc-newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20181010-sdc Yeah, I saw that on Collect Space as well, but if you have to put out a book explaining all the depart...

Re: "First Man" movie, who's going to see it the opening weekend?

I really liked “First Man” (I’m glad I asked the theater manager about the patch giveaway as they had them but the manager had no clue about it) https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1924/44359399765_b31ff709ee.jpg I can't tell if my wife will like it or hate it. It's a coin flip, I think, for what her rea...

Re: IMAX :-(

Dang, I didn't know they were replacing it. I thought they were remodeling it.
Wow, that stinks, as it was always a neat thing to go to SC and watch a space movie, sometimes with Hoot Gibson or Bob Springer in the audience with us!

"First Man" movie, who's going to see it the opening weekend?

Oddly, they're playing "First Man" at a local IMAX theater on Thursday night near my office so I'm going there after work. Ordered my ticket through fandango several days ago and saw ALL the seats available at the time. Some are gone now on the site, but no sell out for me! I got seat in t...

Re: 2018

This should come as no surprise to many of you here, but I had an 'extra' SC flight suit and I decided to put my Advanced SC patch on it (don't recall where I found that but they're almost impossible to get these days), then added an Army Astronaut patch as well, I'll probably wear it at least once ...

Re: 2018

Anyone else here wanting to do the week-long adult program this fall? I'd think that any team I'll be on will be about half alumni and half first-timers. That's how it worked out for 'Hoot Camp' in 2016. I was surprised how many people did a week-long program their first time. That's great! And, you...

Re: 2018

How's the camp planning coming along, Lee (P51)? Are you registered yet? Yep, I'm signed up and made the first payment already. I'll made the final half payment in the next week or so. Once I started doing the math on a hotel (I just didn't want to do the HAB for a week), my wife pointed out that i...

Re: Ozzy & Jack's World Tour comes to Space Camp

I hadn't even heard of it, but I found video at JSC of them actually getting into (I assume) ACES suits on the floor where the FFT once sat. Here's a preview showing them at SC: https://youtu.be/-snaSsiEivw Once again, they showed the celebs riding the MAT, on the 1/6 G chair, and performing an ISS ...

Re: 2018

I have been thinking lately that a good replacement for the rocket launch, for adults, would be to build and fly our own drones. That could include a robotics component that a lot of us have been hoping for. But how do drones really translate for anything space related? I doubt the Martian atmosphe...

Re: 2018

The oddest thing happened very recently. My pal Steve from SC texted me a photo of one of the week-long adult sessions this fall. I made a "hmmm" comment and my wife overheard. She asked what it was and I showed her the text, simply surprised they're doing a week-long session and for no ot...

Re: Camp Suggestion for 2019

Naturally, I like the idea. I'd imagine they're gonna do something for the 50th. That said, do you mean an Apollo landing sim? I can't imagine how that'd work as none of the hardware at SC would work for a LM landing on the moon but I know the software is there for the Altair lander, as I did a luna...

Re: Adult Camp Accomodations

Starbucks inside a Marriott seems to be a normal thing. The Marriott resort that hosts SPACEFEST in Tucson also has a Starbucks. That being said, I can tell you there are not too many people that are happy about this. Otters has long been the unofficial Space Camp watering hole of legend, and wipin...

Re: Adult Camp Accomodations

FYI - Just got back from Space Camp Summerfest and the Marriott has begun renovating the hotel. All of the rooms are being remodeled, and they are putting a Starbucks in where the old Otters was. Geez, another Starbucks? Yeah, if the Marriott needed one thing, it's was one of those... I'm to...

Re: Adult Camp Accomodations

Has anyone heard anything new about adult campers staying at the Marriott? You mean officially , as part of the package? That's news to me, but it'd be great if it's true. I've known several people who stayed at the Marriott the entire time they were at SC, but I've yet to do so. I was at the week-...

Re: 2018

One would think that a weeklong camp means appreciably more mission time than a weekend camp. However, the weeklong has even less mission time proportionally than the weekend ones (based on the sample schedules without meals) - 20% versus 40%. I haven't measured it, but I also wouldn't argue agains...
