I mean, just look at the "demonstration" flight that has been set for 2009. An SRB topped by a dummy second stage, a dummy capsule, and no escape system. Basically all they're going to do is launch the same SRB that has been launching the shuttle since 1981. This is our NEW space program?...

They showed it in HDTV at work. It was almost as good as being there. Not quite though. I should be at the causeway in December though. Already planning that trip with a few friends.

I'm thinking about trying to get a car pass to get on the cause way for the 118 launch, but it's close to the end of my work term and I don't know if I can afford the time off. I was at the 116 launch last December and got to watch from Banana Creek. There's a video around here somewhere. I can link...

Congrats! Sounds like I should've gone then. Everyone (myself included) in the group I was going to go with was just too exhausted from the work week though. We ended up just hanging out at someone's apt and watching movies.

portions of KSC are actually located on a military base. The tour to my knowledge does not cover those areas though.

the thing is, those test areas aren't just sitting there like they used to be either. with msfc so involved with the design work for the ares project, more testing is going on than was before and access is a lot more restricted.

I bet the launch was gorgeous! I saw the last launch in December and lucked out by getting access to the Banana Creek viewing area at the Saturn V building. As beautiful as the night launch was then, I can only imagine the launch at dusk. I purposely stayed at work an extra couple of hours just to w...

To those are coming, hope you guys have a great time! I have no do...

Can't tell you who all I've met, but I've had several occasions this semester where I'll be in line in the cafeteria or walking down the hall at work and have an astronaut in a flight suit right behind me who is in town for a meeting. I did get to talk to the STS 115 crew when they were at MSFC earl...
