Re: 2019?

I am planning on going for the Alumni Fest since this is the 50th Moon Landing Anniversary. Not planning on attending an actual camp at this time. Who else will be there for the Alumni Fest in July?

Re: 2018

I was at Hoot Camp 1. It really was amazing. There were several missions. The long mission was shuttle-based and used the Space station. I found that there was a little more time with nothing going on during the mission. Fewer anomalies, but there was still plenty to do with experiments. I think thi...

Re: 2018

The GoFundMe option sounds like it could work. But the dates would have to be set in advance. That is another issue. Getting dates that will work with enough people. As for team balance, I for one, always prefer being a Mission Specialist, so I would never be fighting to be Pilot or Commander. But I...

Re: 2018

I am always interested, and I can usually get vacation in September or October without much of a problem. But ever time we have tried to get a group together in the past, it hasn't happened. Here's hoping this time is the charm.

Re: 2018

Still, if they ever listed a SC session that was all about the sims, I'd love to do that! I am in complete agreement with this. We need to get them to do a session that is limited to alumni and eliminate the parts that we have all done many times before in favor of more, longer and more interesting...

Re: 2018

I hadn't thought about the lack of atmosphere. More about the robotic construction and the control of a remote device. You are right. It would probably be better to build a rover for Mars or the Moon. And there would be less likelihood of damage moving it around inside the space center, since I susp...

Re: 2018

For example, I could live the rest of my life without ever seeing another model rocket. I got that out my system in my teens. But many people love making them as for a lot of them, that's the only time they'd make and fly one. So I go along with it every time with smile on my face. I have been thin...

Camp Suggestion for 2019

I just made the following suggestion on the Alumni Facebook page and wanted to make it here too: I would like to make a suggestion while there is time for it to be implemented. Next year, for the 50th Moon Landing Anniversary, could Space Camp have a special Moon Landing adult camp for the week head...

Re: Anomalies on Adult camp missions, realistic or silly?

Late September or October, when they usually do the longer adult camps works for me but I might be able to do other times. I would keep the scuba, just so we can include it for Mission Control in the long mission. I have done the Marshall tour many times and can take or leave it. More missions, long...

Re: Patch Pioneer / May 2017 ASA

I agree on the medical anomalies being unrealistic and the counselors decided whether you did the right thing or not. When I was sending instructions for a transfusion to the orbiter I looked up the blood type and specifically told them which one to use. The counselor still said that I gave him bad ...

Re: Patch Pioneer / May 2017 ASA

I am glad that they are doing more anomalies in Mission Control on the Adult program these days. When I was there in 2015 we had a hurricane hit Mission Control and we all had to evacuate. When we returned the lights were out and one of us walked into a downed power line and was killed. He had to go...

Re: Callsigns??

I have been to Space Camp many times and Aviation Challenger 4 times. I only got the call sign at Aviation Challenge. It was part of getting to know each other. We had to tell an embarrassing story about ourselves and our team mates would choose our call sign. I got Conan, because I am a Librarian a...

Re: Movie: Mission Control

I watched it this weekend and really enjoyed it. It showed how much the missions depend on the men and women in Mission Control and how important they were in the early days of the space program. Great to see and hear from so many of them who you usually only get a little bit from in most space docu...

Re: Looking for old teammates

I tried it today. It won't let me search my last name with the apostrophe, and when I search it with no apostrophe, only one of my twelve camps came up. Aviation Challenge in 2004. So I would have to say that it still needs a lot of work. My most recent camps are 2014 and 2015, so it isn't because o...

This was discussed at the Town Hall Meeting for Alumni that was held during the Alumni Reunion Hall of Fame Event in July. Here is the news report about it: http://whnt.com/2017/08/22/confirmed-10-million-in-grant-money-will-bring-us-cyber-camp-to-space-and-rocket-center/ It will include the new Cyb...

Re: Solar Eclipse

Even though we are closed on that day, the public library where I work is providing Eclipse glasses, as is our local planetarium. Many public libraries are having special programs on the day and will provide Eclipse glasses, so you could check there as a possibility. I have mine from the NASA booth ...

Re: Space Camp 35th Anniversary Retrospective Video - What Would You Like to See?

A retrospective video showing clips from each earlier year might be good. I know that a video was made of my Parent/Child program in 1994 and lots of campers probably have other videos that they made over the years. I have a really nice one from my 1996 camp. I transferred them to DVD.

Re: 2018

Some difference are: Longer missions and more of them. Your longest mission is at least 6 hours and sometimes 12. Also, in the week long academy, the scuba training is included. There is usually a tour of Marshall Space Flight Center, but you must be an American citizen for that one, although the no...

I just signed up for an Orion mission at the Summer Fest. Maybe I will get to try the new Orion simulator. Looking forward to it. Is anyone else going to Summer Fest?
