Re: Space Camp flight suit differences and details...

"Space Camp II" was what they called Space Academy the first year. That's a rare set of wings.

Re: SC jackets, anyone have one?

If I can find it and take a picture I have one of the baby blue jackets from the 80's.

In 1989 they didn't do any advanced adult programs...

If we want to do this...

...and 2013 would be the possible date for me, we should work above the base level of management. Is Mike Flashbart still there? Does anyone have an email address for Deb Barnhart? When I reestablished week long adult programs in 1990 (arrgh!) they're who I worked with, and they're in a position to ...

Depending on exactly when...

I might be interested, and I'd touch base with the rest of the Enterprise Team crew to see who else might be able to come.

Welcome Back Deb

They couldn't have picked anyone better. Deb Barnhart was the person who said yes to advanced adult camps, to 10 day adult camps, and to reestablishing extended adult camps (8 day) after they had lapsed. I worked with her as we prototyped the reestablished advanced adult program in 1990, when she tu...

It's probably a permissions problem. Let me take a look. I'm also posting some photos from the first regular adult Space Camp the year before.

Early Sims

Back in these days: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=5290551&id=656782959 There was one motion based cockpit, a spacelab, space station and mission control. A combinatrion of video and very crude computer graphics with no real interactivity was used for out the window views and mission cont...

Sound's familiar

The mission sounds like they dug up some of the old notes from when we (Enterprise Team) prototyped the new advanced adult academy (talk to Mike Flachbart about that week) with a 24 hour sim. There was an accident aboard the orbiter where a PAM module exploded after deploy. Tiles were damaged and co...

"Good" old days

To go back to the original topic, I was there at one of the prototype adult sessions while they were filming Space Camp, so I know exactly what condition everything was in back then. As others have mentioned, there was no training floor as it exists today. There was just "the bubble" with ...

Other far destinations

Just a note, because I haven't been here for a while. Some time after Alumni Camp (25th Anniv) I joined the Foreign Service and am currently serving at my first post in Benin, West Africa. No, that is not one of the TAL sites! Although we have people at the TAL sites. The Foreign Service are America...

Space Academy 2

The Enterprise Team prototyped Adult Level II in 1987. Here is the team patch: http://enterpriseteam.org/patches/etptch87a.gif . We helped put together the program, trained from NASA 2102 training documents, included a 24 hour extended duration sim and burned out both ourselves and our councilors, b...

There is a difference between science and faith, they are not equivalent or interchangeable. This makes the question of human origin important in determining how one views the world. One is based on observation, one based on belief.

Belief won't get us to the stars.

I am very non-religious. It's just no part of my life, never has been, and I've never felt the need.

I waver between total disinterest in the subject (except an academic one, as I have in everything) and an anti-religious fervor which comes out whenever some religion tries to tell me what to do.

The movie was called Countdown. It was based on a book called The Pilgrim Project.

One of my favorite things about the movie was the shots of "Houston" with the mountains in the background (although they did shoot some of it at JSC).

Space Camp 1986

http://youtube.com/watch?v=RbRn8xPJUjA&feature=related

Please excuse the quality. This is a computer capture of a DVD of a Beta tape recorded off the air in the basement of Hab 2 (then "the bubble") in 1986.
