Re: SC jackets, anyone have one?

This is the counselor jacket summer 2010. When I worked the summers of 2009 and 2010 every counselor got the sweater and jacket. Sitting in MOCR/orbiter was always cold so I'd always be in my jacket on the sim floor

I bought a jacket at camp years ago that looks like the one in the photo. The staff version - at least when I worked there in 2009 and 2010 - had Space Camp and Aviation Challenge patches on it. I'm sure they still have the jackets in the store as they have every time I've been there since 2001.

I'm with you! They ought to offer them! They used to (maybe still do) give such badges out to counselors as well...except the summer I worked there! Not that I dwell on that! :D As late as 2010 counselors were still getting the wings. I didn't get it my first summer as a counselor but was able to g...

If you go in spring, camp will be full of school groups. Fall would be a better time to go if you prefer a quiet camp.

I went to 8 day in 2004 before there was a 12 day. The 24 hour mission was totally worth it. I know that 12 day is set up differently than 8 day was but the kids that go seem to love it. In 2010, I was working in the robotics lab when the 12 day group came in and they were a great group of kids. The...

AC uses large bays. Mach 2 boys are put together. All girls are in a separate hallway that has 3 bays. It depends on how many girls are attending each level during that week as to how they divide you up. Bays have around 20 bunks.

Most kids have a cell to call home at night. You are not supposed to have it during the day. If any of my kids had it I'd just tell them to put it away. I never really had problems with kids and cells. I never had any kids lose a cell. The little kids tend to lose wallets etc. So basically, bring it...

Enterprise was ASA, although Atlantis would be used during very busy weeks. Atlantis, Discovery and Endeavour could be used for camp or academy. It changed week to week depending on how many teams there were. I had times where I would have a camp mission followed by an academy mission and then anoth...

If you arrive after registration you will be added to your team upon your arrival and after check in. Don't worry about missing anything because there is an orientation before you are broken into teams. Nothing major will happen in the first few hours of camp and it is common for kids to arrive thro...

If HSV was able to get Enterprise I heard from someone that there is a building that could be erected to house the orbiter.

Wikipedia

So I was messing around on wikipedia the other day and I ended up on Space Camp's page. I my opinion it is, well, crap. It really does not highlight the great points of camp and is very vague in some areas. I'm bringing this up in case anyone is well versed (I'm not the best writer) and has the time...

Two parents can go, but only pairs can be commander/pilot and mission specialists (although occasionally groups of 3 may do an EVA) So if you have your heart set on being Commander and pilot going in a pair is you best bet. Groups of 3 usually end up in Mission Control and Station.

If you have asthma you will not dive. Doesn't matter if you have dived before or not. Even if your doctor says you can dive, the dive staff has final say and will not let you with any history of asthma.

I've seen what they have planned and once complete it should be great. Remember, the camp is mostly aimed at kids and within the next few years most kids won't remember the space shuttle. The direction camp is going is a welcome change. It may inspire a new generation of kids to want to go forward t...

I remember plans back in the early 2000s that had a moonscape for camp programs. So I think that Camp has been planning for quite some time to have moon missions.

Those in the orbiter or the ISS wear the orange flight suits. You should also consider the 4 day program. On select long weekends there is the option to attend the 4 day parent/child. It includes a 3rd mission as well as other added activities. Last summer the 4 day program saw both IMAX films. The ...

I've always arrived early and stayed late but I'm from far out of state so flights made that happen. With extra time after you can see things that you may have missed during your weekend. Also, after grad you may end up going out for a meal with your team. So even if you do leave Sunday, give yourse...
