"Mar's Rover"??

Hey I'm back!!! I thought someone here might be able to help me with this. As some of you recall, I teach hands on science in a summer program, and I have started working on it. It's time consuming but fun, fun, fun. Anyway I am going to do a Mar's Explorer "camp" program. I plan to do thi...

The UAH would be refreshing. I did enjoy the lake sort of, though not the temp.

Hey you'd be proud of me! This summer we did everything metric. That's pretty good for me being really a lay person and not a science type-- even though I am really interested in science. I don't think you need the "u". Canadians, get tough! Do away with your "u" in color, flavor...

It's a man-made lake about 4 feet deep or less. Very hot this time of year. I must have gone to AC in August or so (as all pictures of me and everybody else are in shorts and short sleeve shirts). As I recall the water was about bath water temp. --des There's a lake. You'll do various water-related ...

Re: Could someone please describe to me the bathrooms??

Icky! :-) Don't worry about it. I do too and I didn't care much. You'll be having too much fun. OTOH, I found the cold rooms a bit more problematic-- bring a light blanket, polar fleece or something like that if you are a cold sleeper. --des I hate icky toilets/showers....what are they like at space...

You could send the LIFT OFF to me, and I could tell you whether or not it was worthwhile. :-) I was dissuaded though as this is a launch not landing program. I have now gotten quite a realistic idea of launch with MacMECO and so on and doing sims with the kids all summer. (Not to mention my own SC e...

Sadly I have decided against it. I have to go to St. Louis and stay longer than I usually do. Then I start school (well work for me) on something like the 7th. So there is almost no recovery time in between. My camp this summer was pretty wild and I am not exactly looking forward to work as we are g...

Re: Mac Computer

Well the only one I know of is, I think it is PC as well, is XPlane. It really isn't a Shuttle simulation, but the shuttle is one of the options. I have an ancient piece of abandonware called MacMECO which is what the shuttle MC is doing during launch. It is an interesting piece of software. You cou...

Radio Shack!! I'll say this for them (I might not say much else), but if you want to connect something with something else... I have an older tv and a satelllite tv. So I wanted to connect my VCR/DVD drive to my tv so I wouldn't have to disconnect the satelllite box every time. Well they had the box...

Oh really. I couldn't find such a thing. I called I don't know several places-- didn't know what I was even talking about. Even went online. Of course I didn't exactly know what to call it. I was sure that there was such a thing/ would be such a thing. But yes, it has a serial port. Even so, if anyb...

Hey, we do so!! (Though I am really only a parent to a dog and cats.) This *was* really followed and really popular! The thing is that over time it lost its popularity. But there was a time when all shuttle mission launches were televised (not NASA tv of course). I mean network tv. All 3 stations of...

Re: Apophis

Oh sorry sorry. Funny thing though. I had an ancient computer program called "Power Secretary" put out by Dragon Dictation. Anyway, it was one of the earlier speech to text software programs. It was called "discrete dictation' because you had to say each word clearly separated from ea...

As long as we are on old simulations. I got Precision Approach to work on an aged Windows 95 box. But it doesn't have a game port, so no joystick. My nephew tried to put another audio card in with a port but it does wierd stuff. So I pulled it. Since I don't know enough DOS to fix it, I get tons of ...

Re: Apophis

I think the guy who wrote 2001-- name escapes me, That would be Arthur C. Clarke. YIKES, of course it is! I had Isaac Asimov's name in my head and couldn't get it out. I knew it was not him. BTW, there IS an asteroid named after Arthur C. Clark (A dubious honor? But I don't think it is a near-Earth...

Well all you Albertans out there (how is that anyway, a conspiracy of the Canadian government??) But we are in the same time zone. But, it's a mite warmer here right now. We traveled all over Canada when I was a kid, but as an adult I only was up over the Niagra Falls. The funny thing is the border ...

Oh for sure (I wasn't, of course, thinking of cross-culture in any other but an age sense. I can imagine that working with adults would be entirely different. There are many types of concerns that are irrelevant to working with them-- and as others mentioned some of you have years of experiences wit...

Re: Apophis

Dan, if you really want to get the science right on this--instead of just a story you could read up on this (maybe the NOVA story is on streaming video if you can do such a thing, I just don't have a fast enough connection). Then your details could be very good instead. There isn't a lot of true sci...

Not quite true. If it goes down in the water the impact could be *greater* than coming down on land. The effect would be like a continuous tsunami that is something like 55 ft high. (The one that hit Indonesia, etc a few years ago was a one shot deal.) It is also possible, if it hits land, that it w...
