Re: 2018

I was at Hoot Camp 1 as well (same team as Conan *waves*). In addition to what she mentioned, we flew the sims at Aviation Challenge and climbed the climbing wall. We did a couple of hours at Area 51. We had a Skype session with a guy from mission control in Houston (although as I remember there wer...

I'd be interested. The earlier in the fall the better for me.

Looking for an expert in how reduced gravity impacts the human body to talk with the middle robotics team I coach

Do we have anyone here professionally involved (or otherwise an expert) in space medicine, particularly the impacts of reduced gravity on the physical body? I coach a middle school (ages 10-14) robotics team which competes in the FIRST Lego League. As part of the competition the team has to identify...

Re: 2018

Sadly I'm not going to be making it to camp this year either. I did a few days at Universal Orlando in the spring and that ate up a good portion of my travel budget for the year. But I am going to the Cosmosphere in Hutinson, KS in August. I'll also be spending a lot of time on space related activit...

Re: Anomalies on Adult camp missions, realistic or silly?

Robotics is incredibly fun, just saying... Eight hours in one week wasn't enough! I'm definitely interested in being a part of a corporate group. Late summer/early fall would work for me. August or September would be best. For activities I'm interested in: - I'd enjoy the chance to do some robotics...

Re: Patch Pioneer / May 2017 ASA

I wasn't in there for the long mission in 2015 Advanced Academy but a couple of people had to go and test a procedure in the Scuba Tank, which was a nice touch. I have mixed feelings about this. Sounds cool and more realistic yet it also automatically excludes anyone unable to SCUBA for whatever re...

Re: Patch Pioneer / May 2017 ASA

One of the things that always bugged me about the medical anomalies was that they weren't always really accurate. For example, on an EDM the first time I went to adult ASA we had a guy who was given narcolepsy and kept falling asleep. The "correct" solution to that anomaly was to give him ...

Re: Patch Pioneer / May 2017 ASA

The anomalies these days are ridiculous. It's one of the reasons I have not gone back as an adult. In the 80s and early 90s, the anomalies during the missions were reasonable and realistic. Perhaps with so many ADHD kids these days, there's a need to keep them more engaged. I don't know about the a...

Re: Callsigns??

Callsigns are definitely more a thing on the AC side of Camp. I believe every AC camper gets a callsign. I believe all counselors get a callsign early in training as well. Which may be part of the confusion as many SC counselors are known best by their callsigns. On the space side, I've been to camp...

Re: 2018

Ok so trying to plan things out for 2018 (and beyond) for myself. ... I guess what I am trying to ask is what is the 'proper' order of doing things? I don't think that there is a "proper order" for camps. Both times I've been to adult weeklong camp, we've had rookies who have never been t...

Re: 2018

In my scheduler these dates are mondays, what makes me much more confused, because the woman at the phone told me that they are don't starting at mondays. And it turns out my two sided work reference calendar is from last year, so 2016/2017 not this year 2017/2018. My bad. Sorry for any confusion. ...

Re: 2018

And there are two Adult Advanced Space Academy Weeks: starting at 1st of october and 12th of november. I sent an E-Mail to Space Camp - it's really confusing to me. 1 October and 12 November 2018 are both Saturdays, which is odd as adult week long camps have run Sunday-Friday in the past. I wonder ...

Re: 2018

Did you seen that registration for adult camps is open, now? I saw that there were two Advanced Space Academy programs, one for 1.349 $ and one for 1.199 $. It is the same date (Sept. 24). Do you know the difference between this two programs? Hmmm...that difference in price seems a bit low for the ...

I plan on watching all of it. My parents' house outside of Murphy, NC is in the path of totality, so I'm planning a long weekend visit with my family. Mom says their subdivision is planning a big party in the cul-de-sac at the end of the street on top of the ridge (well big, for certain values of bi...

Win a trip to Space Camp (and some other stuff...but mostly Space Camp)!

In promotion of Andy "I wrote The Martian " Weir's upcoming new book Artemis , Read it Forward and Nerdist are giving away a trip for two to Adult Space Camp, two signed copies of The Martian and Artemis and Personalized Flight Suits (I'm assuming that's Space Camp flight suits with name b...

I didn’t get to the theaters to see it, so I’ll nab it on Netflix when they eventually have it. Other than here and the CollectSpace forum, I haven’t read much about it. I don’t think a single co-worker or local friend of mine saw it as I don’t recall overhearing anyone discussing the film. I'm sur...

Space Camp Robotics - Prime Contract Patch

I know some people here like to collect Space Camp patches. A new one (at least to me) popped up on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/311749271833?ul_noapp=true Is anyone familiar enough with the robotics program to know if this is an official patch and, if so, what it is given for? I would assume it's ...

Re: Packing for Space Camp: THE VIDEO!

It appears to be the Oregon State Seal http://www.crwflags.com/art/states/or_pseal.jpg I agree. If you look at the Bloopers video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgeF-Vd48WM) around 36 seconds in with the resolution up as high as it will go, you get a pretty good view of the patch. It definitely s...

Re: Packing for Space Camp: THE VIDEO!

Fun little video but that's not Hab1. Is that the Aviation Challenge dorm (Hab3?). I'm guessing they did it there because they wanted to show the smallest lockers and encourage people to pack light. The two things missing from the video (and the official packing list) are a camera and a small bag or...
