Re: Heartfelt Thanks and Congratulations for Vincent
Same here. It was the discovery of this board in 2006 that brought me back into the space world. I think of all the things that have happened since then...designing stuff for the Rocket Center, helping with Summerfest, going to tons of space-related events and launches, even moving to Huntsville thi...

Re: Rocket restorations
Yep! They have her completely stripped down to her frame now. Waiting to hear if she's going to be salvageable or not. Hoping all she needs is a new set of skin.

Re: Rocket restorations
Pathfinder will be next! BOLO for an announcement on that soon. It's a very big project that will take 3 years to complete.

Re: Where is everyone now?
Welcome back Spyder/Starbuck! Thank you for remembering us. Hab1 has not gone away. A few of us die-hards are still active here despite what other groups like Facebook may have you think LOL. It is always so refreshing when old members come back. Social media can only get you so far. Like the bar th...

Re: Where is everyone now?
Welcome back! Always great to see some old faces pop back up. A lot has changed! I am now living and working in Huntsville. I have been volunteering and helping out Space Camp and AC for the past several years, including our annual Summerfest alumni reunion and Hall of Fame events. I would suggest c...

Re: Name Badges
I would say it's fairly recent. NASA didn't revert back to the meatball until 1997-1998, and she had one mission after that point (STS-98 in 2001). The only photos I've seen of her wearing that badge are more recent pics taken after that time. I haven't seen any other astros with that particular bad...

Rocket Center lays off more than a third of staff
Sad news from the Rocket Center today. Many of the crew trainers and staff we know and love have been let go. My heart breaks for those who have been impacted.   This is a huge blow to Space Camp and to our friends who dedicated their life to something they loved. https://www.al.com/...

Re: 2020: who's going to Space Camp?
YES!! ...well, sort of. I've accepted a job in Huntsville and will be moving there soon. I expect to be at Space Camp and the Rocket Center a lot more now.

Re: Saturn 1 For Sale!
Considering that the first Saturn I Block I flight was just a test of this stage, with dummy second and third stages, it wouldn't take much for whoever buys this to turn it into a complete rocket for vertical display in a Rocket Park (are you listening, Sprocket? :D ). A basic and bare mockup could ...

Re: Orion anomalies
No Orion anomalies yet. I think they are holding off until we know what real Orion anomalies are going to look like. I don't think it would be too difficult to combine some of the real-life Apollo and Shuttle anomalies to make some temporary ones to use in the meantime. Otherwise, the kids who are c...
Re: 2019?
As far as I know, Enterprise is staying. Will confirm later. Buzz was not signing anything. We were lucky just to have him show up I think. He skipped out on the Homecoming dinner, and only spoke at the Aerospace States Association awards the following evening. He paused to take two photos before he...
Re: 2019?
Hate that you couldn't make it, Kale. You missed a great party! I'm still recovering from the 8 days of SC and Apollo awesomeness. I spoke to one of the sim techs very briefly, and he said the Discovery sim will be removed this fall to begin its transformation into a Dreamchaser. Supposedly SNC is c...
Re: 2019?
Well, they're not all gone. We still have Enterprise, Discovery and the newer Endeavour. Hoping we get to at least keep Enterprise as time goes on.airkale wrote: I'm glad in some ways that I haven't been at a camp since they got rid of the orbiters. I'd hate to have seen them all come down.
Re: 2019?
I really have to wonder what happened to all the shuttle era actual hardware sims? We have the STA in Huntsville, the SCA in Houston, and the Skylab trainers in both. But what about the orbiter actual sims from NASA? One is at the Museum of the Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, and the other is in Seattle...
