Re: 2019?

The Hall of Fame dinner is the weekend of July 13, but the rest of the Summerfest alumni activities will be the weekend of July 20th. There's just so much going on that week with all of the Apollo 50 stuff. While the Summerfest stuff is still being nailed down, here is a run-down of the Apollo 50 ev...

Re: IMAX :-(

You guys are not going to believe what we have now in place of the old Spacedome IMAX! The new Intuitive 3D planetarium is literally out-of-this-world! This is going to be a game-changer for the Rocket Center and for Space Camp! The 8k laser projection system is the first of its kind in the world an...

Re: 2018

My feeling is that adult camps are the redheaded stepchild. In a way, you are correct. One thing I forgot to mention is that right now, Space Camp attendance in the youth programs is B O O M I N G . The last two years or so, Camp programs have been booked to the max, to the point of having staff sh...

Re: 2018

If everyone wants to be pilot or commander for every mission, how will you deal with that? I've had an entire day of camp ruined because adults couldn't get over their desire/demand to be PLT or CDR. After getting everyone's money, the team organizer could send out an email with a "mission pos...

Re: 2018

Just playing Devil's Advocate here: Who is willing to front the $24K or more for a corporate camp, trusting that you will get repaid promptly without anyone dropping out? And if someone does drop out, that everyone else will pay more to cover the additional cost without anyone else dropping out? I ...

Re: Space Camp Benefits!

Welcome to the forum! I know what you are going through. Many moons ago, I struggled to convince my parents to send me to Space Camp. I think they were hoping my space obsession was just a phase and that I would outgrow it and move on to something else. Ha! After 3 years of waiting, I talked my dad ...

I went by and paid my last respects on Friday. Lots of memories in that theater! I snapped these images for posterity on the way out: https://i.imgur.com/EZXEwQF.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Y5RyvXP.jpg https://i.imgur.com/FPwm5We.jpg https://i.imgur.com/J47Bmiy.jpg

Always pack your swim trunks. Ya just never know! I know some of our alumni parties tend to lean away from the bar and more poolside. It depends on the group, and the weather!

Re: Ozzy & Jack's World Tour comes to Space Camp

I saw the Samantha Brown episode last week also and really enjoyed it. She went to some interesting places and I learned a lot about Huntsville. She seemed very enthusiastic about Space Camp, and Dr. B did a great job talking about Camp and the rocket center.

Re: Ozzy & Jack's World Tour comes to Space Camp

Yeah, at no point does the show even try to explain the mission, flight deck, team work, etc. Which I suppose is my main beef with the show. Ozzy and Jack spend the first 45 minutes of the episode screwing off in Birmingham, not even in Huntsville! So Space Camp, despite being Jack's biggest childho...

Ozzy & Jack's World Tour comes to Space Camp

Did anyone else watch Ozzy & Jack's World Tour tonight on A&E? It was the episode where they go to Space Camp.

Ozzy is one of my musical heroes, but I must admit, I wasn't prepared for the sight of seeing Ozzy, the Prince of Darkness in a SC flightsuit. A strange visual!

Re: 2018

Space Camp has built a drone course next to the rocket launch area. I think the drones are being used as part of the Robotics Camp. Not sure if they are incorporating them into the Space Camp curriculum yet.

Re: 2018

I still have a lot of details to iron out (for example, a hotel cheaper than the Marriott as I just don't want to HAB it for another week like I did in 2016), but it looks like I'm going back this year , after all! :D :) 8) They just built a new hotel directly across the highway from Space C...

Re: Camp Suggestion for 2019

So far, we have two Apollo astronauts coming, Al Worden and Ed Mitchell. There will be an attempt to break the world record for most model rockets launched at one time on July 16 (so start building your rockets now!). Later that evening, we'll have an Apollo-themed dinner. Summerfest begins after th...

Re: Adult Camp Accomodations

Starbucks inside a Marriott seems to be a normal thing. The Marriott resort that hosts SPACEFEST in Tucson also has a Starbucks. That being said, I can tell you there are not too many people that are happy about this. Otters has long been the unofficial Space Camp watering hole of legend, and wiping...

Re: 2018

Speaking of rockets, Space Camp will attempt the Guinness world record for the most model rockets launched on July 16 of next year as part of their Apollo 50th anniversary. The goal is to have a million rockets fired off around the world, with each time zone launching their rockets at 9:32am, the sa...

Re: Adult Camp Accomodations

FYI - Just got back from Space Camp Summerfest and the Marriott has begun renovating the hotel. All of the rooms are being remodeled, and they are putting a Starbucks in where the old Otters was. This should all be done by this time next year (50th anniversary of Apollo 11). I'm told each room will ...
